SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Kansas State's Haley Vargas recorded a 7-over par 79 during the second round of the 2023 NCAA San Antonio Regional on Tuesday held at the Oak Course of TPC San Antonio.
Working around a 53-minute weather delay during her first few holes of the morning, Vargas bogeyed Nos. 2, 3 and 9, and she double-bogeyed No. 6. After making the turn, Vargas parred the first three holes with bogeys on Nos. 13, 15 and 18, while her lone birdie of the day came at the par-4 17th hole.
A product of Lubbock, Texas, Vargas fell 20 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 36th with a 36-hole score of 9-over par 153 entering Wednesday's final round.
"It was a tough day for Haley," head coach Kristi Knight said. "Her game was just off today, and she didn't hit that many greens. I'm proud of the way she carried herself out there. Tomorrow is a new day, and she will give it her best."
UTSA's Camryn Carreon, who, like Vargas, is competing as an individual, carded an impressive round of 5-under par 67 on Tuesday to take the lead. She holds a four-shot advantage over three competitors entering the final round. Texas A&M, the sixth-ranked team in the country and No. 1 seed for the NCAA San Antonio Regional, sits atop the team standings at 5-over par 581.
Vargas will tee off the final round of the 2023 NCAA San Antonio Regional on Wednesday at 8:55 a.m. beginning on hole No. 10. Live results can be followed at Golfstat.com.
