MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State senior men's golfer Nicklaus Mason has been named to the watch list for the 2024-25 Haskins Award, the Haskins Foundation announced Tuesday in conjunction with Golfweek and GOLF Channel.
A product of Shawnee, Kansas, Mason is one of 25 members on the final fall watch list, which includes four other Big 12 golfers in Josele Ballester (Arizona State), Tiger Christensen (Arizona), Ethan Fang (Oklahoma State) and Connor Williams (Arizona State).
Beginning in 1971, the Fred Haskins Award is annually given to the top male U.S. collegiate golfer as voted on by only college golfers, coaches and members of the golf media. Past winners of the Haskins Award have captured 33 major championships and more than 400 professional tournaments around the world. Named in honor of Fred Haskins, the award is managed by the Haskins Foundation to acknowledge the top male golfer at the end of the season and to match the ANNIKA Award, which acknowledges the top female Division I collegiate golfer.
Ranked No. 29 in the nation in the latest National Collegiate Golf Rankings, Mason holds a 70.83 scoring average and has earned a pair of victories in his four stroke-play events this season. He took home medalist honors at the Wildcat Invitational after shooting an 11-under par 205, while he closed the fall with a 17-under par 199 to capture the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational title.
His score of 199 to end the fall season tied for the third-lowest 54-hole score in school history and included a second-round score of 8-under par 64, which tied for the third-lowest round in school history. His score of 205 at the Wildcat Invitational tied for 16th in school history as he began the event with a 7-under par 65 to tie for ninth place.
Mason has seven rounds of even- or under-par golf in his 12 total rounds this fall, which includes five rounds in the 60s.
The Wildcats are back in action February 10-11, when they compete in the Hal Williams Collegiate at Magnolia Grove GC in Mobile, Alabama.
