LAST TIME OUT
Senior Achor Achor led six Wildcats in double figures with a season-high 21 points, as K-State set the school single-game scoring record in a 120-73 win over UAPB on Sunday afternoon. It was the 41st 100-point game in school history and the third under head coach Jerome Tang.
The 120 points eclipsed the previous mark of 116 set in a win over No. 6/6 Texas on Jan. 3, 2023, while they were the most-ever in a game at Bramlage Coliseum, surpassing the 115 scored against Delaware State on Dec. 7, 1991, and Fresno State on March 24, 1994.
Achor was joined in double figures by junior Dug McDaniel (18 points), freshman David Castillo (17 points), senior David N'Guessan (17 points), junior Brendan Hausen (14 points) and senior Max Jones (12 points). McDaniel also dished out a career-best 10 assists to register his first career double-double. It marked the fourth time in the Tang era that six players scored in double figures.
KEY STORYLINES
- The Wildcats (6-2) put on a clinic from the 3-point line, totaling 21 makes on a school-record 40 attempts from beyond the arc, falling just two triples shy of the school record of 23 set against Fresno State in 1994. Eight players registered at least one made 3-pointer, while seven had at least 2 makes, led by a season-high 5 from freshman David Castillo. Junior Brendan Hausen, who accounted for 3 treys vs. UAPB, ranks 28th nationally and third in the Big 12 with 3.4 makes/game.
- It's still a small sample size (8 games) but K-State seems to be a better scoring team, averaging 81.6 points on 49 percent shooting, including 38.2 percent from 3-point range with 9.9 makes per game. The Wildcats have already hit on better than 50 percent from the field as well as double-digit 3-pointers in 4 games. The 61.5 field goal percentage vs. UAPB was the highest since a Wildcat win at Texas on Jan. 2, 2023. The team is 6-0 when scoring 70 or more points and 0-2 when they don't.
- Newcomers have combined to score 499 (76.4 percent) of the team's 653 points, including 23 of the 31 double-digit scoring games. Senior returner David N'Guessan (21, 12, 16, 10, 17, 10, 10 and 17 points) is the only Wildcat to score in double figures in the first 8 games, but the next 6 highest scorers are newcomers, including 6 double-digit scoring efforts by junior Brendan Hausen and 4 by senior Max Jones and junior Dug McDaniel and 3 by seniors Achor Achor and Coleman Hawkins.
A K-STATE WIN WOULD…

- Snap a 9-game losing streak in true road games.

BETTER FROM 3-POINT RANGE
- One of the top priorities for head coach Jerome Tang and his coaching staff this offseason was getting better production from the 3-point line. Last season, K-State ranked last in the Big 12 and 289th nationally in 3-point percentage at 31.8, while the Wildcats were eighth in the league and 183rd in the nation in 3-point field goals made/game at 7.4.
- Through 8 games, the Wildcats have made dramatic improvement in that area, as they rank 40th nationally and seventh in the Big 12 in 3-point field goal percentage (38.2) and 49th in the nation and fifth in the league in 3-point field goals made/game (9.9). They are also fifth in the Big 12 in attempts (25.9).
- K-State has connected on 10 or more 3-pointers in 4 games, including a near school-record 21 triples in the win over UAPB (12/1/24). The 21 made 3-pointers are the second-most in school history and the most since hitting on a record 23 in an NIT win over Fresno State on March 24, 1994. - Three Wildcats have already registered double-digit 3-pointers led by junior Brendan Hausen's 27 makes. Hausen ranks second in the Big 12 in total 3-point field goals made (27) and 3-point attempts (66), while he is third in 3-pointers/game (3.38). He ranks among the top-40 nationally in all 3 categories. Ten different players have at least 2 made 3-pointers this season, including 11 by senior Max Jones and 10 by senior Coleman Hawkins.
SUCCESS IN NON-CONFERENCE PLAY
- K-State has posted a 187-58 (.764) record in non-conference play since the 2006-07 season. During that span, the Wildcats have a 146-17 (.899) mark at home venues (includes games played at Bramlage Coliseum, INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita and the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City) in non-conference play, including a 130-14 (.907) mark at Bramlage Coliseum.
- K-State's 12-1 non-conference mark in 2022-23 was the best since the 2009-10 team went a program-best 13-1. Last season, the team went 10-3 in non-conference play, including 7-1 at Bramlage Coliseum.
