K-State Checks in at No. 13 in NCAA WBB Top 16 Seed Reveal

MANHATTAN, Kansas – Kansas State women's basketball checked in at No. 13 in the first reveal of the NCAA Women's Basketball Committee's Top 16 seed selections on Thursday night on ESPN.Â
Programs among the NCAA Women's Basketball Committee's final Top-16 seeds on Selection Sunday in March, will host first and second round games in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. A second top-16 reveal will take place on Thursday, Feb. 29, at 5:30 p.m., on ESPN2. The final 68-team bracket will be announced on Selection Sunday, March 17, at 7 p.m., on ESPN.
This is the second time in three seasons that K-State has appeared in the first reveal of the Top 16 seeds, as the Wildcats were 16th in the 2021-22 first reveal.
K-State (21-4) has improved upon its win total from the 2022-23 season by two wins and have five regular season contests remaining to attain its most victories in the Jeff Mittie era. Among its victories this season, the Wildcats have secured four wins over Associated Press top-25 ranked opponents and are one of 14 teams in the nation with at least four wins over AP ranked foes.
The Wildcats have been led this season by 2024 National Player of the Year candidate Ayoka Lee and All-American candidate Serena Sundell.
A 2024 Naismith Women's Player of the Year Midseason Team honoree and a 2024 John R. Wooden Award Top 20 candidate, Lee has had a strong 2023-24 as she is averaging 19.8 points on a career-best .651 field goal percentage, 8.1 rebounds and 2.75 blocked shots. She ranks second in the nation and leads the Big 12 in field goal percentage. Lee is third in the Big 12 in scoring average and leads the league and is 10th in the nation for blocks per game.
Lee, a Lisa Leslie Award Top 10 finalist, has recorded 10 games this season with 20 or more points including her second career 20-20 double-double with 24 points, 21 rebounds and five blocked shots against Oral Roberts.
This season, Lee has led the Big 12's top defense with 15 games with two or more blocked shots including a season-high seven at UCF on Jan. 6 and at Iowa State on Feb. 14. The 2024 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year candidate has also collected two or more steals in four games.
In her career, Lee ranks fourth in school history for points scored with 2,037, second for rebounds with 1,040, the school record holder for career blocks with 291 and owns the school record for career double-doubles with 55.
Sundell is second on the team in scoring with 12.0 points per game on a career-best .538 field goal percentage. She leads the Big 12 for assists (134) and is second for assists per game (5.4 apg). The All-Big 12 First Team candidate is second for Big 12-only games with 5.9 assists per game, she ranks third in the league for field goal percentage (.546) and is eighth in the conference play for scoring (14.75 ppg).
In her career, Sundell is fifth in school history for career assists with 494 and is second in program history for career assists per game (5.26 apg). She moved into the K-State top-30 for career scoring with 1,152 points. She is the only player in school history with 1,000 or more career points, 400 or more career rebounds and 50 or more career blocked shots.
