K-State Falls 4-1 in First Match Against UCF

The Wildcats travel to Houston on Sunday morning, April 7

ORLANDO, Fla.- The K-State women's tennis team faced UCF for the first time on Friday (April 5), dropping the match 4-1 after encountering three set battles at the USTA National Campus.
 
#74 K-State (9-10, 3-8 Big 12) worked into three sets in three of the six singles matches against the #55 Knights (8-10, 5-5 Big 12), but could not keep up the momentum.
 
Freshman Jillian Harkin and senior Manami Ukita lost their first match together, falling to Olivia Lincer and Donatella Guanieri in the no. 3 spot, 6-2. Freshman Tereza Polakova and sophomore Vanesa Suarez competed for the first time as a pair, being defeated by Noel Saidenova and Anique Kattenburg 6-3 in the no. 1 position.
 
Freshman Maralgoo Chogsomjav and sophomore Maria Santos went unfinished in the no. 2 spot, 3-4, to Jantje Tilbuerger and Sophia Biolay.
 
Santos was the lone point for the Wildcats, victorious in straight sets over Guanieri, 6-4, 6-0 in the no. 6 position.
 
In her second consecutive three-set match, Suarez started off claiming the first set 6-3 against Saidenova, but dropped the second and third sets 6-3, 6-1 in the no. 1 spot.
 
Polakova lost a consecutive match for the first time this spring, fighting in the no. 4 position in a high scoring second set against Tilbuerger, falling short 6-4, 7-5. In the no. 3 spot, Chogsomjav was defeated in two sets by Lincer 6-2, 6-2.
 
After having not competed in singles play since March 17 against TCU, Ukita was up in the third set over Kattenberg. In the no. 5 position for the first time this season, she was victorious in the first set 6-0 and battled back in the third, but went unfinished 6-0, 2-6, 5-2.
 
Freshman Charlotte Keitel encountered her first three-set match since March 9 at Texas Tech. Against #123 ranked Biolay in the no. 2 spot, she fell short in the first set but swept her opponent 6-0 in the second. She was fighting back in the third set before it went unfinished 3-6, 6-0, 3-5.
 
K-State will face Houston (2-15, 0-10 Big 12) on Sunday (April 7) morning at 11 a.m. CT at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility in Houston, Texas.
