A summer update of current and former Wildcats.
MLB
Will Brennan – Cleveland Guardians (MLB) – OF
Brennan was recalled to the Guardians on August 9 after nine games in Triple-A where he hit .371 with four doubles and one home run. In August, Brennan is slashing .316/.333/.395 with Cleveland. Brennan was selected in the eighth round (No. 250 overall) by Cleveland as the only Wildcat taken in the 2019 MLB Draft.
Nick Martini – Cincinnati Reds (MLB) – DH
Martini was placed on a 60-day injured list on July 13. Martini slashed .212/.272/.370 with four doubles, two triples, and five home runs for the Reds. K-State alum was a seventh-round selection of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011.
TRIPLE-A
Jordan Wicks – Iowa Cubs (Triple-A, Chicago Cubs) – LHP
Wicks is making his way back from a 60-day injury list, and was sent to down to the Iowa Cubs on rehab assignment from the Chicago Cubs. The Wildcats' first-ever first-round draft pick Jordan Wicks posted a 4.18 ERA (13 ER, 28 IP) for the Cubs this season with a record of 1-2. In six starts and one relief appearance, Wicks has struck out 32 batters. Wicks was selected 21st overall by the Chicago Cubs in the 2021 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
Carson Seymour – Sacramento River Cats (Triple-A, San Francisco Giants) – RHP
In 21 starts for Sacramento, Seymour has a record of 5-9 with an ERA of 5.07 (61 ER, 108.1 IP) with a team-leading 107 strikeouts. The Poway, Calif., product picked up a win in his last outing on August 18, striking out seven and allowed one hit in five shutout innings in relief. Seymour made five starts and surrendered 18 runs in 27.2 innings (5.86 ERA) with 27 strikeouts. Seymour was taken in the sixth round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the New York Mets.
Eric Torres – Salt Lake Bees (Triple-A, Los Angeles Angels) – LHP
Torres was promoted to Triple-A on August 13, following 27 appearances with the Trash Pandas where he was 4-1 with a 2.31 ERA (9 ER, 35 IP) and 55 strikeouts. Torres was a 14th round draft pick in the 2021 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels.
DOUBLE-A
Blake Adams – Hartford Yard Goats (Double-A, Colorado Rockies) – RHP
Right-hander Blake Adams was promoted to the Hartford Yard Goats on August 14, following 17 starts in High-A with Spokane this season. Adams is 1-1 in Double-A with a 6.00 ERA (6 ER, 9 IP) with 11 strikeouts. Adams, who was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 13th round (No. 386 overall) in the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft, pitched one season at K-State in 2022, going 6-6 with a 5.07 ERA and 90 strikeouts.
Tyler Eckberg – Pensacola Blue Wahoos (Double-A, Miami Marlins) – RHP
A native of Edina, Minn., Eckberg was promoted to the Marlins Double-A affiliate Pensacola from the High-A Beloit Sky Carp on June 7. Since his promotion to Pensacola, he's made 16 appearances in relief with a 2.45 ERA (7 ER, 25.2 IP), with 22 strikeouts. Eckberg picked up his lone victory on July 25. Eckberg signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Miami Marlins following the 2021 MLB Draft, following three seasons at K-State.
Zach Kokoska – Hartford Yard Goats (Double-A, Colorado Rockies) – 1B/OF
Kokoska, a 2021 All-Big 12 Second Team selection, returned to the Goats on August 21 from a 7-day injured list. This season, he is slashing .220/.315/.476 with 20 doubles, one triple and 17 home runs. His 17 homers and 59 RBI leads the Goats. Kokoska played three seasons at K-State where he slashed .363/.430/.595 before he was drafted in the 10th round (290th overall) by the Colorado Rockies in the 2021 MLB Draft.
Connor McCullough – Birmingham Barons (Double-A, Chicago White Sox) – RHP
McCullough was placed on the full-season injured list on June 18. Prior to his injury, McCullough had a 3.38 ERA (5 ER, 13.1 IP) with a 3-1 record. McCullough signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Chicago White Sox following the 2022 MLB Draft. On April 30, he was placed on a 7-day injured list before being moved to the full-season injured list on June 18.
Wesley Moore – Reading Fightin Phils (Double-A, Philadelphia Phillies) – LHP x
Moore was reactived from a 7-day injured list on July 30. With the Phils, he has made nine relief appearances with a 11.57 ERA (9 ER, 7 IP) and nine strikeouts. Moore signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Philadelphia Phillies following the 2022 MLB Draft.
HIGH-A
Nick Goodwin – Vancouver Canadians (High-A, Toronto Blue Jays) – IF
Goodwin, who was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the seventh round (No. 214 overall) in the 2023 MLB Draft, is slashing .206/.297/.331 with 13 doubles and two triples. Goodwin's nine home runs on the year rank third on the team while his .331 slugging-percentage is fourth. A 2023 All-Big 12 selection, Goodwin has driven in 38 RBI over 97 games in High-A. Goodwin started in all 173 games he appeared in at K-State, sending out 33 career blasts which stands fourth in the all-time records.
Dominic Johnson – West Michigan Whitecaps (High-A, Detroit Tigers) – OF
Johnson returned to the Whitecaps on August 22, following a month in Single-A with the Lakeland Flying Tigers. With Lakeland, he produced a slash line of .298/.393/.442 with six doubles and three homeruns. Johnson was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 13th round in the 2022 MLB Draft.
Dylan Phillips – Tri-City Dust Devils (High-A, Los Angeles Angels) – LHP
A two-way player and the Wildcats all-time career home run leader, Phillips has made 36 relief appearances for the Dust Devils this season, boasting a 2.93 ERA (15 ER, 46 IP) with a record of 2-3. Phillips picked up a win on August 15, surrendering one hit in two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Phillips was taken by the Los Angeles Angels in the eighth round (No. 238 overall) in the 2022 Major League Baseball First-Year Draft.
Christian Ruebeck – Great Lakes Loons (High-A, Los Angeles Dodgers)
Ruebeck was assigned to the Dodgers High-A affiliate Great Lakes Loon on August 6. In three appearances for the Loons, Ruebeck is 1-0 and has allowed one hit through 4.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. He pitched one season for the Wildcats, going 0-1 with a 9.58 ERA while striking out 42 before he signed as an undrafted free agent contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers following the 2022 MLB Draft.
SINGLE-A
German Fajardo – Modesto Nuts (Single-A, Seattle Mariners) – RHP
With the Nuts, Fajardo is 2-2 with an ERA of 4.89 (31 ER, 57 IP) in 30 relief appearances, while striking out 65 and a .241 opponent average. He signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Seattle Mariners in 2023. In two seasons as a Wildcat, Fajardo was 8-6 with a 4.98 ERA and struck out a career-high 10 against Wichita State on May 3, 2022.
INDEPENDENT
Cameron Thompson – Missoula PaddleHeads (Independent) – IF
Thompson is slashing .264/.387/.437 in the Independent League for Missoula. In 70 games, he has recorded 12 doubles, two triples and eight home runs, while driving in 45 RBI with 60 runs scores. On the mound, Thompson is 1-0 with a 3.52 ERA (3 ER, 7.2 IP) with five strikeouts in seven appearances.
2024 MLB DRAFTEES (5)
Kaelen Culpepper – Cedar Rapids Kernels (High-A, Minnesota Twins)
Culpepper, a product of Memphis, Tenn., was activated by the High-A Cedar Rapids Kernels after producing a slash line of .297/.366/.541 in Single-A. The first rounder is hitting .182 with Cedar Rapids with a .308 on-base percentage and .273 slugging. Culpepper became the program's first positional player taken in the first round, as he was taken 21st overall by the Minnesota Twins in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft.
Brendan Jones – Hudson Valley Renegades (High-A, New York Yankees)
A native of Greenbrier, Tenn., Jones was promoted to the Yankees High-A affiliate Hudson Valley Renegades on August 20 from Single-A. In 10 plate appearances with the Renegades, he is hitting .300 with a home run, five stolen bases, a .563 on-base percentage and .600 slugging percentage. Jones heard his name called in July, as he was selected in the 12th round (No. 361 overall) by the New York Yankees on the final day of the 2024 MLB Draft. The 2024 Gold Glove Finalist
Brady Day – Clearwater Treshers (Single-A, Philadelphia Phillies)
On August 1, Day was assigned to the Single-A Clearwater Treshers. With the Treshers, Day is slashing .233/.313/.256. Day was selected in the 10th round (No. 312 overall) by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Tyson Neighbors – ACL Padres (Rookie, San Diego Padres)
Neighbors, who was selected in the fourth round by the San Diego Padres with the 118th overall pick, was assigned to the Padres Rookie affiliate team on August 5.
Jackson Wentworth – Wentworth was drafted in the fifth round (No. 158 overall) by the Toronto Blue Jays.
REDSHIRTS IN 2024-25 (2)
Micah Dean – Danville Otterbots (Appy League) – UTL
A native of Richmond, Texas, Dean produced a slash line of .239/.344/.312 with 33 hits, 22 RBI and 20 runs scored. The Otterbots used a six-run second inning to clinch the Appy League title while Dean was recognized as the playoff MVP with an incredible .625/.667/1.250 slash line.
FRESHMAN IN 2024-25
Chandler Murray – Westfield Starfires (Futures League) – IF
The incoming freshman from Honolulu, Hawaii finished as one of the top hitters for Westfield with a slash line of .308/.443/.397 with four doubles, a home run and 17 RBI. His .443 on-base percentage was second on the team.
MLB
