Rowing Releases Spring 2025 Schedule
Feb 03, 2025 | Rowing
Season starts on March 8 in Oklahoma
K-State women's rowing head coach Patrick Sweeney announced on Monday (Feb. 3) the 2025 spring race schedule featuring six races prior to the Big 12 Championship in May.
Â
"We're looking forward to the spring and jumping back into competition," Sweeney said. "This year we have a good mix of experience and younger athletes that all want to work. We're ready to see what we can accomplish once we're back on the water."
Â
Opening up the season, the Wildcats will start spring competition on March 8 in Oklahoma, racing against Central Oklahoma and Tulsa on the Oklahoma River.
Â
"This season I am looking forward to the team growing stronger and working together. We have been training and pushing ourselves all year to prepare for our spring racing season," senior Symone Simmons said. "Many of us have been racing together for a few seasons which has helped us really gel as a unit. We're looking forward to winning races and earning medals."
Â
The team will then travel to Sacramento, Calif., for the Hornet Invitational hosted by Sacramento State on March 15-16. After a weekend of racing, the team will remain in California for their annual spring training camp.
Â
"We're looking forward to the conference changes and the opportunities that it's opened up," senior Halle Fee said. "I think as a collective the team is definitely very excited."
Â
The Cats will end March in Sarasota, Fla., on March 28-29, competing at the Sunshine State Invitational, hosted by fellow Big 12 competitor UCF.
Â
"It's bittersweet, knowing that the last four years of work leads to this one last season," Fee said. "However, it's been a lasting motivator for me each day to be ready to work but also have fun these last few months I have with my team."
Â
On April 13, K-State will face the Bluejays at the Creighton Duel in Omaha, Neb., before heading to Oak Ridge, Tenn., on April 18-19 for the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championship.
Â
"This will be my last season on the team. As a senior I feel proud, grateful, focused, determined, and a little emotional. This team means so much to me," Simmons said. "These are my girls and life with them the last four years has been such a privilege. When you compete in a sport as tough as rowing and experience all the highs and lows together, it only brings you closer."
Â
The annual Sunflower Showdown will wrap up the regular season on May 3. Racing will take place in Kansas City, Kan., at Wyandotte County Lake.
Â
"I'm finishing my career feeling grateful for the coaches who took a chance on a girl who didn't even know what rowing was four years ago. I'm grateful for all the girls past and present who have supported, believed, pushed and encouraged me throughout the years," Simmons said. "This sport has taught me that I can do more than I believe and that I'm capable of doing hard things. With all that being said, I am not done yet. I'm determined to end my career with a great last season with all of my best friends. The seniors and I are looking forward to this last victory lap. Go Cats!"
Â
The Big 12 Championship will be held on May 18 back in Sarasota, Fla.
Â
"We're proud of the team for the work they have done year after year. Our goal is always to put as many boats as we can in medal contention," Sweeney said. "The next few weeks are our final push to build fitness and strength. Once we get past that, it's time to enjoy the season. Racing is fun, and we're looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish this year."
