Enoe tied for 8th in the indoor Championship, adding to her trophy case
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Junior Sharie Enoe tied for 8th in the women's high jump at the NCAA Championship on Saturday (March 15) to earn First Team All-America honors at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
"I'm just super proud of Sharie, she just competed like a champ today," head coach Travis Geopfert said. "You know, she's been at this meet before, and had disappointment and just was calm and collected today, and consequently, earned her first All-American honor."
Enoe cleared 1.85m (6' ¾") on her third attempt to tie for 8th place with Evelyn Lavielle of Texas Tech, unable to execute her personal best attempt of 1.88m (6' 2"). She cleared the first two bars of 1.75m (5' 8 ¾") and 1.80m (5' 10 ¾") on her first attempts.
Enoe adds First Team All-America to her honors after previously earning Second Team last season finishing 14th in Boston, Mass.
"I think what's really cool about it, in this sport, when you get that title of All-American, that title stays with you for a lifetime, and so she can be proud of it," Geopfert said. "And when she gets introduced here on out, you know, this is our All-American Sharie Enoe."
With her height of 1.85m in the Championship, that is her third best clearance of the indoor season, having executed 1.87m (6' 1 ½") and 1.88m (6' 2") in February.
Two women tied for the 1st place title of the high jump at 1.94m (6' 4 ¼"), Temitope Adeshina from Texas Tech and Elena Kulichenko of Georgia.
"I really got to give a huge congrats to coach [Christopher] Goodwin in leading the high jump group, and what he's just done, a phenomenal job with her," Geopfert added. "And thank coach Clive [Pullen], you know, supporting the high jumpers as well and supporting Sharie, it's just hats off to the coaches, doing a phenomenal job. And I think there's a lot of exciting things ahead for this young woman."
K-State will get back into competition with the start of the outdoor season on April 11-12 at the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kan., hosted by Wichita State.
