K-State Hosts Two Big 12 Newcomers from Arizona

Wildcats will face Arizona and Arizona State for first time as conference foes
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team continues the Big 12 conference stretch at home by hosting first-year members on Friday (March 21) with Arizona and Sunday (March 23) with Arizona State at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.

K-State (6-6, 3-2 Big 12) will face fellow Wildcats, #35 Arizona (14-5, 5-1 Big 12), at 4 p.m. on Friday. The Cats are 3-0 in series history against Arizona, victorious in the last match up between the two teams on February 21, 2021 in the Little Apple with a 4-0 sweep.

The Arizona Wildcats feature one woman in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings from March 18, Josie Usereau at no. 47.

At 12 p.m. on Sunday, K-State will face #36 Arizona State (10-4, 5-1 Big 12). The Wildcats are 0-2 in match ups against the Sun Devils in Tempe, facing them the last time on February 20, 2022 with a 2-4 final score.

ASU has two women in the ITA singles rankings, Emilija Tverijonaite (33) and Sara Svetac (49), and one ranked doubles team with Patricija Spaka and Lily Taylor at no. 36. Taylor was also named the most recent Big 12 Player of the Week on March 18.

Parking for Mike Goss Tennis Stadium has been updated for weekday matches prior to 5 p.m. Due to the Denison Road closure, spectators can enter through Gate 9 on Kimball Ave., and park in lots C1 or C2 as pictured in the parking map. The Wildcats played just one match last week on March 14, falling to then-ranked #36 Oklahoma State with a 1-4 decision. Junior Maria Santos earned the lone singles win, collecting her first ranked win, and 30th overall, as a Wildcat by sweeping #49 Gracie Epps, 6-2, 6-2.
