K-STATE HOSTS 10/10 IOWA STATE ON SENIOR DAY SATURDAY
K-State (15-15, 9-10 Big 12) concludes the regular season on Saturday, as the Wildcats play host to No. 10/10 Iowa State (22-8, 12-7 Big 12) at 12:30 p.m. CT on CBS. It will be Senior Day at Bramlage Coliseum, as the school will honor managers David Brown, Jarek Clark and Kameron Shaw as well as players Spencer Bain, Coleman Hawkins, Max Jones and David N'Guessan in pregame.
Â
K-State and Iowa State will be meeting for the 242nd time on Saturday, as the Wildcats' 147 win are the most against one opponent in school history. The Cyclones hold a slight 31-30 edge in the Big 12 era, as the Wildcats look to sweep the season series for the first time since 2020-21 after earning an 80-61 win on Feb. 1 to snap a 29-game homecourt winning streak at Hilton Coliseum.
Â
It has been a roller coaster of a Big 12 season for K-State, which has had a 6-game losing streak followed by a 6-game winning streak followed by a 4-game losing streak followed by a current 2-game winning streak. The Wildcats got some good news in Wednesday's win at Cincinnati, as senior Coleman Hawkins played nearly 34 minutes in his return to the court after missing 2 games.Â
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Senior David N'Guessan continued his strong play in Wednesday's 54-49 win at Cincinnati with his team-leading sixth double-double of the season (and ninth overall) with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. N'Guessan led or was tied for the team lead in 5 different categories, including points, rebounds, assists (4), steals (2) and blocks (1). He scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half in helping the Wildcats overcome a halftime deficit for the first time this season.
Â
The stifling defensive effort helped snap a 3-game road skid while sweeping the regular-season series from the Bearcats. The 49 points were the fewest allowed by a Jerome Tang team and the fewest allowed in a conference game since Oklahoma State had 46 points on Feb. 23, 2019. The 54 points were the fewest in a road win since a 50-46 win at Iowa State on Feb. 21, 2009.   Â

The 49 points were the fewest allowed by a Jerome Tang team and the fewest allowed by the Wildcats in a conference game since Oklahoma State scored 46 points on Feb. 23, 2019.
- In addition to N'Guessan's stellar performance, the game marked the return of senior Coleman Hawkins, who missed the last 2 games due to injury. Hawkins was his usual all-around self despite some rust, posting 9 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and a block in nearly 34 minutes.
- The two seniors, along with junior Dug McDaniel and senior Max Jones, helped spark a big second-half run by K-State, which rallied from a halftime deficit for the first time in 11 tries while connecting on 50 percent (13-of-26) from the field, including 61.9 percent (13-of-21) on 2-point attempts. However, two free throws from Aziz Bandaogo and layup from Dan Skillings Jr. lifted the Bearcats to a 25-22 lead at halftime.Â
- Cincinnati carried its momentum into the second half, scoring 10 of the first 16 points to extend the lead to 35-28 after the first media timeout. However, Jones ignited another K-State run, as his jumper sparked a string of 8 straight points that gave K-State a 36-35 lead with just under 12 minutes remaining.Â
- After the Bearcats went back ahead on a jumper at 37-36 after a timeout, junior C.J. Jones gave the Wildcats the lead for good with a jumper at the front of the rim that sparked a 6-3 run that extended the lead to 44-40 at the third media timeout. The home team pulled to within 46-45 with 6:21 to play but 6 straight points gave the Wildcats a 52-45 edge with just over 4 minutes left.
- A 4-0 run got Cincinnati to within 52-49 with 1:48 to play, but the Bearcats could get no closer as the Wildcats locked down defensively before Brendan Hausen knocked down a pair of free throws for a 54-49 lead with 22 seconds.
- McDaniel joined N'Guessan in double figures with 13 points to go with 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 rebounds in more than 38 minutes. Jones matched Hawkins' 9 points to go with 7 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

INSIDE THE WINNING STREAK

- The Wildcats averaged 77.2 points during its winning streak, connecting on 47.8 percent (170-of-356) from the field, including 37.9 percent (50-of-132) from 3-point range, while making 70.9 percent (73-of-103) from the free throw line. Five players averaged between 15 and 11.3 points per game, including Dug McDaniel (15.2 ppg.), David N'Guessan (14.5 ppg.), Coleman Hawkins (12.0 ppg.), Max Jones (12.0 ppg.) and Brendan Hausen (11.3 ppg.). Â

The Wildcats averaged 36.3 points in the paint, 17.3 points off turnovers, 9.2 second-chance points and 14.3 fast-break points in this span.   Â
- The last 6 wins were examples of why getting off to good starts are important to winning, as K-State outscored No. 23/23 West Virginia, Oklahoma State, No. 3/3 Iowa State, Arizona State, No. 16/17 Kansas and No. 13/13 Arizona, 238-173, in the first half on 48.9 percent (91-of-186) shooting. The Wildcats jumped out 19-2 vs. the Mountaineers en route to a 42-18 lead at the break, while they enjoyed a 15-4 start vs. the Cowboys en route to a 45-23 advantage at the half.
BETTER FROM 3-POINT RANGE
- One of the top priorities for Jerome Tang this past offseason was getting better production from the 3-point line. Last season, K-State ranked last in the Big 12 and 289th nationally in 3-point percentage at 31.8, while the Wildcats were 183rd in the nation in 3-point field goals made/game at 7.4.
- Through 30 games, the Wildcats have made some improvement in that area, as they rank 140th nationally and eighth in the Big 12 in 3-point field goals/ game (8.0) and 204th in the nation and eighth in the league in 3-point field goal percentage (33.6). They are also eighth in the Big 12 in attempts (23.9).
- K-State has connected on 10 or more 3-pointers in 9 games, including a near school-record 21 triples vs. UAPB (12/1/24). - Six Wildcats have registered double-digit 3-pointers led by junior Brendan Hausen's 86 makes. He ranks third in the Big 12 in 3-pointers/game (2.87) and 3-point field goals and 3-point percentage (39.3). He ranks among the top 60 in all 4 categories. Other players with double-digit 3-pointers include senior Max Jones (43), junior Dug McDaniel (32) and senior Coleman Hawkins (31).
OVERTIME STREAK ENDS
- K-State saw its 12-game winning streak in overtime games end in the 73-70 loss to unbeaten Drake on Dec. 21 in the Wildcat Classic at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City. In a game in which they trailed by as many as 20 points in the first half, the Wildcats seemingly tied the game at 70-all in overtime on a 3-pointer by senior Coleman Hawkins with 13 seconds before the Bulldogs' Bennett Stirtz's 3-pointer with 4 seconds left proved to be the game-winner.
- K-State's 12-game overtime winning streak was the second-longest in Division I history since 1950 and the second-longest current streak behind Florida State (14; 2018-current) and right ahead of Winthrop (10; 2017-current).
- K-State set the Division I single-season record with 7 overtime wins in 2023-24, which included Providence (73-70), Oral Roberts (88-78), North Alabama (75-74) and Villanova (72-71) in non-conference play and No. 9/9 Baylor (68-64), No. 4/4 Kansas (75-70) and West Virginia (94-90) in Big 12 action.
- The 7 overtime wins in 2023-24 set the Division I single-season record, snapping a tie of 6 with Wake Forest (1983-84), Chattanooga (1988-89) and Lafayette (2007-08). The 7 overtime wins also broke the school record of 5, while it was the most overtime games in school history (5 total set in 1992-93 and 2022-23). The 6 overtime home wins were also the Division I mark.
- The loss also snapped coach Jerome Tang's 13-game personal winning streak in overtime game, which dated back to an overtime win as interim head coach at Baylor in 2013 over Texas.
TOP 25 SUCCESS UNDER TANG
- Head coach Jerome Tang has enjoyed success against Top 25 teams since he came to K-State prior to the 2022-23 season, posting a 16-15 record, including a 5-2 mark in 2024-25. The win over No. 13/13 Arizona (2/11/25) was the fifth this season, which ties the Wildcats for the most in the Big 12.
- Tang is now 13-3 at home vs. AP Top 25 opponents, including 4-1 in 2024-25. His 16 career Top 25 wins tie Tex Winter (1954-68) for the fourth-most in school history.
