Wildcats and Mountaineers will meet on Wednesday, April 16, at 6 p.m. CT

MANHATTAN, Kan.- The 10-seed K-State women's tennis team will begin the post season in the Big 12 Championship on Wednesday (April 16) against West Virginia in Waco, Texas, hosted by Baylor.

#62 K-State (9-11, 6-7 Big 12) will face 15-seed West Virginia (8-16, 2-11 Big 12) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT, at Hurd Tennis Center. The winner will face the 7-seed BYU Cougars (17-9, 7-6 Big 12) in the second round on Thursday (April 17) at 7 p.m. CT. All matches will be streamed on ESPN+.

K-State last faced WVU in a postseason match on April 18, 2019, victorious 4-0 to advance to the quarterfinal round.

The Wildcats faced the Mountaineers in the first conference road series on March 9 in Morgantown, W.V., the Cats coming out on top 4-3, capping off what turned out to be the longest winning streak of the season at three matches.

Sophomore Charlotte Keitel, junior Maria Santos and senior Veronika Kulhava all claimed straight set victories during that match while sophomore Maralgoo Chogsomjav won in three sets.

West Virginia ended the regular season 1-2, falling short to #15 Texas Tech and Colorado at home before defeating Cincinnati on the road, 4-2.

The Wildcats dropped the last two road matches of the season on April 11 at then-ranked #65 Iowa State (1-4) and #39 Kansas (0-4) on April 13. Chogsomjav had the lone K-State singles win over the weekend with success over the Cyclones' then-ranked #119 Anna Supapitch Kuearum in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. Chogsomjav is currently 8-2 in three-set matches this season, a perfect 5-0 in conference play.

The Wildcats are looking for a consecutive season with double digit overall wins, the team going 12-12 last season. During another season of 13 conference matches, K-State achieved their most wins at 6, two more than last season when the team went 4-9.
