TULSA, Okla. – The Kansas State men's golf team produced a 36-hole score of 27-over par 587 on Tuesday as the Wildcats are in a four-way tie for seventh place following the first two rounds of the 2025 Big 12 Championship held at the challenging par-70, 7,556-yard Southern Hills Country Club.
K-State is tied with No. 22 Arizona, No. 28 BYU and No. 33 Texas Tech midway through the 72-hole event on a difficult track that played a collective 4.41 shots over par on the day. All 16 teams are over par through 36 holes and only two teams shot an under-par round on Tuesday.
"I am really proud of how the guys competed today," head coach Grant Robbins said. "Playing 36 holes on a golf course this difficult can really take it out of you – especially mentally – but the guys hung in there and did a good job grinding for every shot. We have a quick turnaround, so it's important to rest up as much as we can and get back after it in the morning."
In addition to being tied with three teams in the top 50, K-State is five shots ahead of No. 42 Kansas and seven shots clear of No. 14 Utah.
The Wildcats were led on Tuesday by senior Kobe Valociek, who is tied for 14th place at 4-over par 144. A transfer from Virginia Tech, he recorded a second-round score of even-par 70, which matched his best round ever in a conference championship with the 70 he produced in the second round of last year's ACC Championship.
Senior Nicklaus Mason and junior Alex Lindstrom are two shots back of Valociek and tied for 23rd place. A product of Shawnee, Kansas, Mason posted a first-round score of even-par 70, one shot better than his previous career low for a Big 12 Championship, which came in the first round last season. He parred each of the first eight holes and bogeyed No. 9, but he bounced back with birdies on the first two holes of the back 9 before a bogey on No. 14.
Starting the second round on No. 10, Lindstrom went 3-over par over his first 9 holes but rebounded by going bogey-free and 2-under par with birdies on Nos. 1 and 2 to finish the afternoon at 1-over par 71. The Halstad, Sweden, native shaved four shots and rose 18 spots from his first-round performance.
Freshman Erik Sabelström Holmberg is tied for 56th place at 12-over par 152, while senior Cooper Schultz is tied for 66th place at 15-over par 155.
Arizona State, which ranks fifth in the country, holds a four-shot lead over No. 4 Oklahoma State through the first two rounds. The Sun Devils are at 1-over par 561 thanks to a 3-under par opening round, while the Cowboys went 1-under par in the afternoon.
ASU also has the top two players on the individual leaderboard and the only two players under par with Connor Williams in first place at 4-under par 136 and Josele Ballester three shots back.
Kansas State has an early start to its third round of the 2025 Big 12 Championship on Wednesday as the Wildcats begin play at 7:30 a.m., off hole No. 1. Live results can be viewed on SCOREBOARD Powered by Clippd.
