MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off her record-breaking performance, K-State freshman standout Addison Massey was awarded Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday.
Â
In addition to her first weekly award of her career, Massey was named to the Big 12 Starting Seven for the third time this season.
Â
Massey, a native of Las Cruces, N.M., finished first among all Division I players in kills per set (6.50) during Week 9, while she finished third nationally and first in the league in points per set (6.67). She is now second in the conference in kills per set, ranking 12th nationally. She finished the week with 39 total kills and hit at a .305 clip.
Â
Her 24-kill performance against Texas Tech set a school record for the most kills in a three-set match during the rally-scoring era, surpassing a previous mark set in 2007. She became just the third player in school history to eclipse the 24-kill mark in a three-set match and the first to accomplish the feat since 2000. Her 25.0 total points tied the school record for most points scored in a three-set match during the rally-scoring era, making her the third player to reach the mark.
Â
Massey and the Wildcats will head to Lawrence on Friday night for the second round of the Dillons Sunflower Showdown, taking on No. 15 Kansas (14-5, 7-2 Big 12). First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at Allen Fieldhouse, with the match set to be broadcast on FS1.
