FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Kansas State men's golf team continued their weekend in Arkansas Sunday morning, maintaining fifth place through round two of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational at the par-72, 7,991-yard Blessings Golf Club.Â
Â
After a high-scoring round two amongst the entire nine-team field, including a 21-over par 309 by K-State, the Cats maintained their position in fifth place, five shots behind fourth-place Southern Mississippi.Â
Â
"It was an extremely tough day today," said head coach Grant Robbins. "The wind kicked up, and when you combine that with an already extremely difficult golf course and challenging hole locations, loose shots get penalized very easily. We have a great opportunity tomorrow to move up. We took a lot of punches today, but as I told the guys after the round, we are going to stay in the fight and give it everything we have and see what happens."Â Â Â
Â
Sophomore Oliver Toyer leads the Cats through two rounds with a score of 2-over par 146 after a round of 1-over 73 on Sunday with three birdies on the day. With the Wildcats' best performance of day two, Toyer landed alone in seventh place entering the final round, a 12-spot climb from the first day's results.Â
Â
"I thought Oliver had one heck of a round today," said Robbins about the sophomore. "He just hit to his spots, made a few putts and put a really solid round together."Â Â
Â
Espoo, Finland native Ville Virkkala shot a 5-over par 77 in round two. The sophomore heads into the final round tied for 13th at 5-over par 149, one shot shy of the top 10.Â
Â
Junior Erik Sabelström Holmberg found himself with the third-best score of round two among the Cats, shooting a 6-over par 78. Sabelström Holmberg will start the final round tied for 27th after a two round total of 11-over par 155.Â
Â
Sophomore Octavio Laurent went 10-over par 82 on Sunday and is in 30th place at 12-over par 156. Fionn Dobbin rounds out the scoring lineup for the Cats in a tie for 39th place at 15-over par 159 after shooting 9-over par 81 on Sunday.Â
Â
The host-team Arkansas leads the field with a two-round score of 5-under par 571. Ahead on the individual leaderboard is Southern Mississippi's Benjamin Fernandez, who has tallied a two-round total of 3-under par 141. Â
