Wildcats Start Conference Play Hosting Cincinnati, West Virginia

K-State ends a five-match home stand with first two Big 12 opponents
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team wraps up a five-match home stand with the start of the conference slate on Friday (February 27) with the Cincinnati Bearcats at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium. Admission is free and open to the public.
K-State (3-3) will play at 4 p.m. on Friday facing Cincinnati (5-2). The Wildcats are 3-0 against the Bearcats, victorious in Ohio last season with a 4-3 win. In that last match, then-sophomore Maralgoo Chogsomjav had the clinching singles win in the no. 3 spot against Gabrielle Guenther.
On Sunday (March 1), the Cats will play indoors at Peakform Sports and Wellness Center at 12 p.m. against West Virginia (6-1). K-State has been successful over the Mountaineers for the last three meetings, including 4-3 during the first round of the Big 12 Championship last season on April 16.
The Cats went undefeated to end non-conference play with wins over Old Dominion and #53 Minnesota. On Sunday, February 22, K-State swept the Gophers at 4-0, freshman Sasha Kyselova secured her first singles win with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 victory over Mia Liepert on the no. 3 court.
Facing Old Dominion on Friday, February 20, sophomore Diana Smolinska clinched the win for the Wildcats. After a long three-set match against Uladzislava Manzhos, she claimed the first set and battled back for a win in the third at 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 in the no. 4 spot. Freshman Varvara Bernovich claimed her first singles victory in that match in the no. 5 position over Lidiia Rasskouskaia at 6-4, 6-2.
K-State secured the doubles points in both matches, aided by #55 ITA ranked duo Maralgoo and her sister freshman Martaa Chogsomjav, who are 3-1 this season on the no. 1 courts.
After five matches at home, the Cats will hit the road next weekend to visit Colorado (8-2) on March 6 before a match up against Texas Tech (9-3) on March 8.
