Geopfert Named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Men’s Coach of the Year

This is Geopfert's first head coaching award, previously winning as assistant coach seven times
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State Director of Track and Field Travis Geopfert was named the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Men's Indoor Coach of the Year as announced by the organization on Thursday (March 19), his first head coaching award. In his second year at the helm, Geopfert led the men's track and field teams to program records during the season.
Geopfert guided the men's team to the program's highest NCAA Championship finish, and most points scored, in 4th place with 24 points. Six Wildcats were named First Team All-Americans, during the first NCAA postseason for four of the men, and the first honorees since 2022.
In the triple jump, national runner-up Selva Prabhu, Aaron Antoine (5th) and Trevon Hamer (8th) collected a total of 13 points, the first time a team had three men reach the event podium since Florida in 2011.
At the Big 12 Championship the men's team was named runners-up with 124 points, the most points scored in program history and first time the team finished in 2nd place since 2004. The team crowned four conference champions, the most for the Wildcats in a single season. Last season the men's team finished last in 13th place with 14.5 points.
From February 3-17, K-State was ranked #1 in the USTFCCCA rankings during weeks two and three. The Wildcats scored the most points in week two at 142.93 points.
Geopfert was previously named the Men's Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year six times during his time at Arkansas (2013, 2014, 2017, 2023, 2024) in the South Central region and at Tennessee (2020) in the South region.
The last time K-State had an indoor award winner was in 2016, Akela Jones named the Midwest Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year.
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced winners for both men's and women's programs in eight categories, Track Athlete of the Year, Field Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year for nine regions.
