K-State to Host Last Big 12 Opponents with Iowa State, Kansas

The Wildcats will wrap up the regular season before the Big 12 Championship starting April 15
MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team wraps up the Big 12 conference regular season at home at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium starting on Friday (April 10) with Iowa State.
K-State (7-12, 2-9 Big 12) and the Cyclones (4-14, 2-9 Big 12) will meet at 6 p.m. The Wildcats are 3-4 in recent regular season meetings, victorious 6-1 the last time the two competed in Manhattan in 2024.
On Sunday (April 12) the Wildcats will meet #39 Kansas (12-9, 7-4 Big 12) in the Sunflower Showdown set for 12 p.m. K-State is 0-4 in the last four meetings, the closest match between the two teams was during the 2024 season with a 3-4 loss in Manhattan.
In the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings from April 7, junior Maralgoo Chogsomjav and freshman Martaa Chogsomjav, K-State's sister duo, are in the doubles poll at #89.
The Jayhawks also have athletes ranked in both ITA singles and doubles rankings, Kyoka Kubo is #69 in singles while Kubo and Heike Janse Van Vuuren are #62 in doubles.
On Wednesday (April 8) the Wildcats were victorious in a doubleheader over Chicago State with 7-0 and 4-1 wins over the Cougars. In the first match of the day the teams competed in all doubles and singles matches, three singles courts playing in 8-game pro sets to a 7-0 score. The second match consisted only of singles matches for a 4-1 win.
Three Wildcats, freshmen Varvara Bernovich and Diana Smolinska and sophomore Chanel Rustemova, all collected two wins on the day.
After going unfinished in three of the last five matches, the Chogsomjav sisters won their first match since March 20 against Baylor, as they defeated Mackenzie King and Karolina Skowronska 6-4 in match one. During that match, Rustemova swept King by leaving her scoreless in the no. 3 spot at 6-0, 6-0.
In the second match of the day, Martaa returned back to the win column, previously successful on March 1 against West Virginia, as she defeated Camila Sanchez in the no. 2 spot at 6-3, 6-0.
After the weekend, the Wildcats will then prepare for the Big 12 Championship set for April 15-18 in Orlando, Fla.
