The senior quarterback ran for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Senior quarterback Avery Johnson ran for 152 yards and two touchdowns while the defense collected six sacks in helping Kansas State to a 31-20 win over Tulane on Saturday afternoon before a sold-out crowd of 51,846 fans at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

K-State is now 3-0 to start a season for just the fourth time in the last 12 seasons dating to 2015.

In addition to his 152 yards on the ground, Johnson was an efficient 21 of 28 through the air for 227 yards, becoming the first Wildcat quarterback to run for 150 yards and throw for 200 yards. He is the fourth Big 12 player in the last 20 seasons with 200 or more yards passing, 150 or more yards rushing and multiple rushing touchdowns in a game.

Johnson's rushing total was the 10th-most by a quarterback in school history and the most since Adrian Martinez had 171 rushing yards against Texas Tech on Oct. 1, 2022.

Senior wide receiver Jaron Tibbs was the beneficiary of nine of Johnson' 21 completions, totaling 114 yards, including a 40-yard catch and run.

The offense accounted for 428 total yards, including 201 on the ground.

The defense held a pesky Tulane team to 260 yards, including just 95 on the ground, while collecting 12 TFLs, including the six sacks by five different players.

Senior safety Wesley Fair led all defenders with 8 tackles, while junior defensive end Wendell Gregory had 3 TFLs, including a half sack. Junior end Jayden Bryant was credited with 2 sacks.
