Ake, who played two seasons at Oklahoma under head coach Pete Hughes, enters his first year with K-State as a graduate manager.
Ake comes to Manhattan after spending the 2018 season as the volunteer assistant at St. John's, helping the Red Storm to a 40-17 record and a berth in an NCAA Regional.
A two-year letterwinner for Hughes at OU, Ake appeared in 83 games (59 starts) for the Sooners. In his senior season, he hit .214 with eight doubles, a homer and seven RBI and was named First Team Academic All-Big 12 in 2015. Following his playing career, Ake stayed on with the Sooners as an undergraduate assistant for the 2016 season.
After beginning his collegiate career at the University of North Carolina, Ake transferred to Howard College in Big Spring, Texas, for his sophomore season, hitting .278 with 10 RBI in 36 games.
A native of Readington, New Jersey, Ake graduated from Hunterdon Central High School as the program's all-time leader in hits and runs scored while winning two state titles. Following his senior season in 2011, Ake was drafted in the 29th round (No. 882 overall) by the New York Mets as the No. 4 player in his class in the state of New Jersey.
