Guyette Named Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week
May 11, 2026 | Baseball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State's James Guyette was honored by the Big 12 Conference Monday afternoon, as the right-hander was named Co-Pitcher of the Week.
A native of Newbury Park, California, Guyette earned the first weekly honor of his collegiate career, sharing the award with West Virginia's Maxx Yehl.
Guyette fired his first career complete game Sunday, leading the Wildcats to a 5-2 victory over Cincinnati and improving to 6-3 on the season. The junior limited the Bearcats to two runs on three hits across nine innings, becoming the third Wildcat to go the distance this season. It also marked the program's first nine-inning complete game since 2024.
After allowing two runs in the second inning, Guyette settled in to retire 18 of the next 20 batters he faced before the Bearcats collected their third hit in the ninth. He finished with a career-high 13 strikeouts – the most by a Wildcat under head coach Pete Hughes – while issuing just one walk.
With 99 strikeouts this season, Guyette became one of just 21 Division I pitchers nationally to reach the mark. He also became the 12th pitcher in K-State history to record 90 or more strikeouts in a single season and now sits one shy of becoming just the fifth Wildcat to reach 100 strikeouts in a season.
Guyette and K-State (27-24, 10-17 Big 12) will wrap up the regular-season this weekend, as the Wildcats head to Orlando, Florida to take on UCF (29-18, 17-9 Big 12), starting Friday at 5 p.m. CT at John Euliano Park.
