Luke Sauber At A Glance
Luke Sauber begins his 14th year as an assistant athletic trainer at Kansas State, including his 12th as the primary trainer for the men’s basketball team and Ice Family Basketball Center Sports Medicine Coordinator, in 2025-26. He joined the men’s basketball support staff in June 2014, spanning head coaches Bruce Weber and Jerome Tang, after spending two seasons (2012-14) as the athletic trainer for the women’s basketball team.
Battling through the most challenging year in athletic training, Sauber was part of a K-State Sports Medicine staff that was honored as the best in the Big 12 by their peers in 2020-21. It marked the third time that the athletic training staff has received the distinction following 2004 and 2017.
The Salina, Kan., native returned to his alma mater in 2012 after a four-year stint (2008-12) as an assistant athletic trainer at Abilene Christian, where he worked with the football, men’s basketball, golf and men’s and women’s tennis programs.
Prior to his tenure at Abilene Christian, Sauber completed a year-long internship with the NFL’s Carolina Panthers in 2007-08.
Sauber earned a dual Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training and Kinesiology from Kansas State in 2005. He received his Master’s in College Student Personal/Intercollegiate Athletics in 2007.
As a student athletic trainer (2001-05) and graduate assistant (2005-07) at K-State, he worked with a variety of sports, including football, men’s basketball, baseball and men’s and women’s track and field.
Sauber is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and is certified to provide CPR/First Aid/AED use by the American Red Cross.
Sauber married former Wildcat women’s basketball All-American Kimberly Dietz in June 2013. The couple have a son, Emmit, and a daughter, Pearl Ann.
