A former Wildcat rower, Beth DeMars Damman is in her ninth season with the K-State women’s rowing team as an assistant coach, after serving as a graduate assistant coach during the 2015-16 season.

In her first year as an assistant coach, she coached the 3v8+ to one of its best seasons to date. This included a 1st place finish at SIRAs, 2nd place finish at the Florida Invitational and 3rd place finish at the Big 12 Championships as well as topping Tulsa, Oklahoma and Kansas in their respective dual races.

During the 2019-2020 seasons, DeMars helped guide the Wildcats to strong seasons, including consecutive victories in the Sunflower Showdown against rival KU, including a clean sweep of the Jayhawks, 22-0, in 2019. The Wildcats have also finished 3rd at the Big 12 Championship in each of the last three years, among Big 12 programs.

“Working with our student athletes is a very rewarding experience. With such hard-working individuals, they make coaching fun. Coming from the program, I understand how much these girls have to put into it, and I enjoy guiding them and helping them to find success,” DeMars said.

A member of the team from 2011-15 and two-time letterwinner, DeMars was part of two of the best seasons in program history, as the squad recorded back-to-back top-three finishes at the Big 12 Championships. As a senior, she helped the 2V8 capture a gold medal at SIRAs and a bronze at the Big 12 Championship to go with a victory over Kansas at the Sunflower Showdown.

DeMars also excelled off the water, earning Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors all four seasons while twice being named a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete. In addition, she received the prestigious Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, which is the highest academic honor in the Big 12 Conference.

A native of Shawnee, Kansas and graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, DeMars earned her bachelor’s degree from K-State in elementary education in December of 2014 and continued on at Kansas State to earn her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in May of 2017.
