Mary Spilski joined the K-State Family as the K-State Cheer and Mascot Head Coach in August 2024. With more than 20 years of cheer coaching experience – including more than 13 years as a Division I head coach – Spilski has a proven track record of building cheer and mascot programs to elite levels. She is responsible for oversight of the K-State Cheer and Mascot program focused on supporting all K-State sports by engaging and entertaining fans to provide the Best Fan Experience in the Big 12 Conference.
Prior to her arrival in the Little Apple, Spilski led the Eastern Michigan University spirit programs for a decade, leading the Eagles to their first ever National Championship. EMU claimed the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Intermediate Small Coed Division IA title in 2021 and followed it up with a program-record score of 97.0278 to finish as the national runner ups in 2022. Spilski also worked for the NAIA fine-tuning and creating the sport of Competitive Cheer. She has been a judge, sports resource liaison, and national assigner.
Before her stint in Ypsilanti, Spilski served as Interim Head Coach for the University of Wyoming Cowboys/Cowgirls spirit teams for two seasons after being promoted from Assistant Coach for the cheer and dance programs at Wyoming the two seasons prior. Her responsibilities also included oversight of Wyoming's top-ranked mascot program. She has more than 20 years of experience as a cheer coach at the high school, community college and University levels.
A native of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Spilski earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education/Early Childhood Education from the University of Wyoming. She is married to her husband Shad and is the proud fur mom to five dogs.
