Mesquita and Maria Linares began doubles play with a 6-1 win from the second position before Margot Decker and Anna Turco claimed the deciding doubles match. Mesquita also earned K-State’s first singles win over Jessica Aragon, 6-0, 6-2. Mesquita and Decker boast identical 3-1 singles records during the spring to lead the Wildcats. Ethan Powell - Men’s Track & Field
Powell, a sophomore from Colorado Springs, Colo., ran a personal best 8:19.98 in the men’s 3,000 meters to place second overall at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational this past weekend in Lincoln, Nebraska. Powell remained close to the front throughout the race before battling at the finish line with Nebraska’s Bailey Timmons. He would go on to finish second, despite cutting about 10 seconds off his previous personal best set at last year’s Larry Wieczorek Invitational. The Wildcats will travel to Lubbock, Texas, next weekend to compete in the Texas Tech Shootout on February 8-9.
Dean Wade - Men’s Basketball
Wade, a senior from St. John, Kan., finished with 24 points in Stillwater, Oklahoma, as the Wildcats returned to the win column with a 75-57 victory over Oklahoma State. It marked his 18th career 20-point game, including his third this season. Wade went a perfect 9-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-3 from 3-point range, to go with a game-high 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks.
