
Track and Field Embark on Outdoor Season in Stanford Invitational

The invite serves as the first of four regular season outdoor meets
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State track and field teams officially begin the outdoor season with the Stanford Invitational on Friday-Saturday (April 3-4) in Stanford, Calif., at the Cobb Track & Angell Field.
The day starts on Friday with the men's javelin collegiate at 11:30 a.m. CT, the men's 5,000 meters will start the track events at 12 p.m. CT.
On Saturday, the women's hammer collegiate will begin at 11:45 a.m. CT, before the women's 4x100 relay starts at 3:10 p.m. CT.
Six multi athletes already started their season in the David Noble Relays on March 26-27 in San Angelo, Texas, with the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon. Freshman Lalie Pouzancre-Hoyer won the heptathlon with 5,570 points while fellow freshman Zoey Brinker finished right behind her with 5,569 points, both women taking residence in the K-State school records, at no. 9 and no. 10, respectively. Senior Kayla Goodwin finished in 4th place with 5,201 points.
In the men's decathlon, senior Emil Uhlin claimed runner-up with 7,773 points, 86 points shy of his personal best performance. Freshman Dorian Charles finished in 3rd place with 7,720 points, no. 8 in the school all-time top-10 and as a native of Trinidad & Tobago, a new national record. Fellow freshman Mattix DaCunha placed 5th with 6,959 points.
The Wildcats ended the indoor season with one NCAA national champion, junior Daniela Wamokpego in the women's triple jump, and two more NCAA medalists, sophomore Selva Prabhu with silver in the men's triple jump and junior Tah Chikomba with bronze in the men's long jump. A total of 12 Cats were named NCAA First Team All-Americans while head coach Travis Geopfert was named the USTFCCCA Midwest Men's Coach of the Year.
The Stanford Invitational serves as one of four regular season meets for K-State's outdoor season, including hosting the Ward Haylett Invitational on May 8. The Big 12 Championship will start the postseason on May 14-16.
