Lawrence, Kan. - The Kansas State women's golf team shot a round of 311 Tuesday to tie for third place at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational played at the Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan. The 17-team tournament was originally a 54-hole format, but was reduced to a one-round tournament after rain postponed Monday's action.
Sophomore Christine Boucher shot a round of 77 on the par-72, 5800-yard course to lead the Wildcats with a ninth-place finish. Senior Edie Murdoch and juniors Elise Carpentier and Miranda Smith, who were the three other Wildcats that made up the four-person score of 311, shot rounds of 78 and placed in a tie for 14th. After shooting a 42 on the front nine, Murdoch came strong on the back nine with a 36, which tied the lowest back-nine score of the day.
Freshman Sarah Heffel shot 83 for a 44th-place finish. Morgan Hagler and Stephanie Limoges, who competed as individuals for K-State, shot rounds of 85 and placed tied for 56th. Annie Schneider, K-State's third individual competitor, placed tied for 70th with a round of 87.
The Kansas State women's golf team will be back in action Nov. 4-6 when it travels to Kiawah Island, S.C., for the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Women's Intercollegiate. The 54-hole tournament played at the Oak Point Golf Course will be the last competition for the women this fall.
