FORT COLLINS, Colo. - After competing at the Zone Championships today in Fort Collins, Colo., three members of the K-State women's equestrian team will advance to the National Championships. Kelly Gratny, Maureen Reynolds and Kristy Rue will all represent the Wildcats in Conyers, Ga., on May 3-6.
The 2000 Reserve Champion in Western Horsemanship, Gratny won the Open division at the Zone Championships today. This qualifies the Leavenworth, Kan., native for nationals. The senior was second in the nation in that same event last year.
Another Leavenworth, Kan., representative is Rue. The senior was the only Wildcat rider to show in two events at the Zone Championships. Rue competed in both Novice Fences and Novice Flat. She placed first in the Novice Fences division and will advance to nationals in that category.
Overland Park, Kan., native Reynolds placed second in Intermediate Fences at the zone competition. The second place finish allows the sophomore to advance to nationals.
The three members of the Wildcat equestrian team will represent K-State in the National Championships in Conyers, Ga., at the Georgia Horse Park, May 3-6.
