Kansas State Tennis Plays Miami, Notre Dame

ATHENS, Ga. - The Kansas State tennis team went 1-2 in doubles with Miami and 4-6 against Notre Dame in a mock dual today at the Georgia Bulldog Fall Invitational in Athens, Ga.

Freshman Maria Rosenberg (Manhattan, Kan.) remain undefeated in singles this weekend and her collegiate career with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Katie Cunha of Notre Dame at No. 4 singles. Rosenberg and sophomore Hayley McIver also split their two doubles matches today, beating Miami's Sara Robbins and Igna deVilliers, 8-4, but falling to Notre Dame's Sarah Jane Connelly and Emily Neighbours. McIver finished her day with an 8-4 victory over Michelle Hamilton of Notre Dame at No. 7 singles.

Senior Alena Jecminkova (Yeck-mink-oh-va) lost at first singles to No. 48 ranked Becky Varnum of Notre Dame, 6-1, 6-0. In first doubles action, Jecminkova and freshman Andrea Cooper fell to Miami's Mari Toro and Marcy Hora, 8-6, and at second doubles the duo beat Notre Dame's Alicia Salas and Katie Cunha, 8-2. Cooper fell in at fifth singles, 6-3, 6-0 to Notre Dame's Connelly.

Junior Petra Sedlmajerova (settle-mare-oh-va) fell to Notre Dame's Lindsey Green, 1-6, 6-3, 5-7 at second singles. In second doubles, Sedlmajerova and senior Kathy Chuda (WHO-da) lost to Miami's Staci Stevens and Jessica Pelto, 8-5. In first doubles, the Wildcats lost to No. 23 Varnum and Green, 8-2. Chuda won at third singles against Notre Dame's Salas, 6-4, 6-4.

Sophomore Paulina Castellijos (Cast-till-ay-hoes) won her singles match against Miami, 6-1, but fell to Notre Dame's Neighbours, 2-6, 6-3, 3-6.

Tomorrow the Wildcats finish the tournament with a "mock dual" against Miami at 8:30 a.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
