MANHATTAN, Kan. - Queeneth Evurunobi and Rebekah Green, each of whom won more than one event at last weekend's KSU All-Comers Meet, have been named the Kansas State Track & Field Female Athletes of the Week for the weekend of Dec. 13 & 14.
Coby Cost was the Male Field Athlete of the Week, with Will Jones earning the men's track award.
Evurunobi was the women's track award winner after capturing both the 60- and 200-meter events. She came close to her indoor career bests in both the 60 (7.74 seconds) and the 200 (25.33), and also won the long jump (19 feet, 8 inches).
Green had a provisional-qualifying mark in the women's shot put at 53-7.75 and won the weight throw at 56-6.50. Her efforts earned her the vote of coaches as the women's field athlete of the week.
?Both Queeneth and Rebekah put in good falls,? said K-State assistant coach Randy Cole. ?Queeneth is ahead of where she was at this time last year. These marks show they've been doing things the right way during fall workouts.?
?Rebekah was just getting warmed up,? said throws coach Steve Fritz. ?We took only four attempts in this meet, and if she would have had a couple more throws, she might have gone farther.?
Cost placed second in the men's weight throw at 62-10.50 last Saturday. It was the third-best mark in K-State history, and he became only the fifth Wildcat ever past 60 feet in that event.
?I'm impressed with the way he's improved this fall,? said Fritz. ?Technically, with some more work, he'll be able to push that mark even farther.?
Jones had a personal-record in the men's 60-meter dash, winning the event at 6.78 seconds.
?He is another person who has used hard work in fall workouts to improve his marks,? said Cole. ?Hopefully, this will pay off when we return to competition in a few weeks.?Kansas State hosts a pair of meets on Jan. 10 and 11 at Ahearn Field House.
