Lahner Captures Second School Record in Women’s 1,000 Meters
Feb 20, 2026 | Track & Field
The junior now holds two indoor records, the women's mile and 1,000 meters
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Junior Vienna Lahner conquered another school record on Friday (February 20) in the women's 1,000 meters during the Steve Miller Invitational, the final meet of the regular season at Cliff Rovelto Indoor Track.
Lahner won with a time of 2:44.33, a nine second personal best, and just five-tenths of a second faster than the previous record time of 2:44.89 from Kassidy Johnson in 2020. The native of Spring Hill, Kansas, ran the school record time in the mile (4:38.84) during the DeLoss Dodds Invitational on January 31.
"Vienna Lahner is on fire," head coach Travis Geopfert said. "Coach Trey Brokaw and Stephanie Brokaw helping her out, just unbelievable. Vienna to run another school record, Trey leading her in that, I'm just really proud of those efforts."
Senior Monique Hardy had a season's best in the women's weight throw at 22.12m (72' 7"), now no. 10 in the NCAA. That throw was a quarter of an inch from her personal record, and over a foot further than her farthest performance from the first meet of the season at 21.70m.
"One thing that really stood out to me tonight that I need to shout out is Monique Hardy," Geopfert added. "[She] is a senior, it's her last season of eligibility, and she threw 22 meters, punched her ticket to nationals in the weight throw and, you know, got the weight off of her back. Proud of her, happy for her, and we're really excited to go into this conference meet this next weekend and go see what both of our teams can do."
The men's 4x400 relay continues to climb up the K-State indoor top-10, junior Nen Matlock, senior Cyrus Ways and juniors Bongumusa Nkosi and Tavon Underwood clocked a time of 3:05.96, now the no. 3 time in the records.
Freshman Mattix DaCunha ran the 60-meter hurdles in 7.88 seconds in the preliminary race, now the no. 5 fastest time in the K-State school records. In the women's 60-meter hurdles, seniors Vanessa Mercera (8.38) and Jourdin Edwards (8.44) finished first and second, respectively.
Junior Ricardo Hayles had more than a three-foot improvement in the men's weight throw with a winning distance of 18.67m (61' 3"). In her first meet as a Wildcat, senior Cheyla Scott, from South Carolina, won the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.81m (5' 11.25").
The Wildcats will begin the postseason with the Big 12 Championship on February 27-28 in Lubbock, Texas, at the Sports Performance Center.

Head Coach Travis Geopfert
On the atmosphere during the last home meet of the season…
"It was a great atmosphere, despite, we came into this meet thinking it was a low key meet and it was in terms of numbers, but the crowd turned out. We had spectators coming and filling the stands and some great energy here at the Cliff Rovelto Track."
On a couple women opening up their season…
"Kayla Goodwin, one of our pentathletes, had a great meet overall, prepping herself for the conference meet. Cheyla Scott opened for us, transferred just this semester, jumped 5' 11" in the high jump as a season opener, she's another significant bullet that we have in the women's program."
