
Wildcats Begin Postseason with Big 12 Championship

Day one begins at 10 a.m. with the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State track and field teams begin the postseason on Friday-Saturday (February 27-28) in the Big 12 Championship in Lubbock, Texas, at the Sports Performance Center. Both days can be streamed on ESPN+, while tickets can be purchased starting at $9.
The men's and women's multi-events will start the day on Friday at 10 a.m., first with the heptathlon 60-meter dash. The first track event will begin at 2 p.m., the women's preliminary mile, the women's weight throw will kick off the field events at 3 p.m.
In the USTFCCCA week five rankings on February 24, the Wildcats are one of just four programs entering the postseason with both the men's and women's teams in the top-10. The men still sit at #4 with 115.28 points, while the women moved up two more spot to #10 with 74.26 points.
At the conference meet last season the K-State women finished in 8th place with 43.5 points while the men's team was 13th with 14.5 points.
During the last regular season meet at home on Friday, February 20, junior Vienna Lahner claimed another school record, this time in the women's 1,000 meters with a time of 2:44.33, #3 in the Big 12 standings.
Senior Monique Hardy had a season's best in the women's weight throw at 22.12m (72' 7"), now leading the Big 12 and #10 in the NCAA. The men's 4x400 relay clocked a time of 3:05.96, the no. 3 time in the school records and in the Big 12, with junior Nen Matlock, senior Cyrus Ways and juniors Bongumusa Nkosi and Tavon Underwood.
Heading into the Big 12 Championship, multiple Cats are sitting in the conference top-10 standings. The men hold the top spots in multiple field events, seniors Gary Moore Jr. (23.54m) and Kade McCall (22.63m) in the weight throw, freshman Alan Hanna (2.25m) and senior Devin Loudermilk (2.22m) in the high jump and junior Tah Chikomba (8.09m) and sophomore Uroy Ryan (7.87m) in the long jump. Sophomore Selva Prabhu (16.63m), junior Trevon Hamer (16.47m) and senior Aaron Antoine (16.40m) hold the number 2-4 spots in the triple jump standings.
For the women, junior Maud Zeffou-Poaty is #1 in the long jump (6.58m), junior Daniela Wamokpego at #2 in the triple jump (13.59m), senior Sharie Enoe is tied for #4 in the high jump (1.88m).
While senior Vanessa Mercera won't compete in the pentathlon, she still holds the conference lead at 4,429 points and is #6 in the 400 meters at 52.83 seconds. With her women's 4x400 relay team, freshmen Desirae Riehle, Delaney Brinker and Anastasiia Kretova, they are #4 at 3:33.59.
