Women's Golf in First After Opening Round of Mountain View Collegiate

Tucson, Ariz. - The Kansas State women's golf team is in first place after posting an opening-round 298 Saturday at the Mountain View Collegiate.
The 10-over-par score on the 5,921-yard, par-72 Mountain View Golf Course matches the best round by the Wildcats in school history. The 'Cats also posted a 298 at the Big 12 Fall Preview on Nov. 2, 2000.
The Wildcats are four strokes ahead of Arizona State (302), which is ranked No. 7 in the nation by Golfstat, and seven up on Long Beach State (305) in the 14-team field entering Sunday's final 18 holes. Baylor (307) and Iowa (308) round out the top five in the team standings.
K-State was solid throughout the lineup as four Wildcats finished among the top 11 individuals. Christine Boucher is tied for third after posting a 1-over-par 73, while Miranda Smith, who is in sixth place, was one shot off her career best with a 74.
Following closely behind that twosome was Edie Murdoch, who shot a 75, her best round of the spring, and Sarah Heffel, who carded a 76. Elise Carpentier, the defending champion, is tied for 59th after posting an 85.
Marie Louise Juul of Long Beach State is first in the individual standings with a 71, while Walailak Satarek of UC-Irvine is second with an even-par 72.
Tee time for Sunday's final round is set for 8:30 a.m. (MST). Results will be available on www.k-statesports.com following each day's competition.
