Two Wildcats Named To Big 12 All-Conference Tennis Teams

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State singles player Alena Jecminkova and the doubles team of Jecminkova and Andrea Cooper were named Big 12 All-Conference, in voting by the league's head coaches and announced by the conference office Thursday.
Jecminkova, a native of Olomouc, Czech Republic, picked up her third All-Big 12 honor in as many years and her second doubles honor. The senior was a NCAA Singles Championship qualifier, the third in K-State history, last season. The Wildcats' No. 1 singles player finished the regular season at 16-12 overall, 12-7 in dual matches and 8-3 in league competition. She is currently ranked No. 98 in the April 24 Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
Cooper picked up her first all-conference honor. The Felixstowe, Suffolk England, native is K-State's No. 5 singles player and teams with Jecminkova for the Wildcats' first doubles team. The pair upset four ranked teams in the regular season and finished with records of 20-13 overall, 12-7 in dual matches and 8-3 in the Big 12.
The sixth-seeded Wildcats play third-seeded Kansas Friday at 4 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Conference Tournament at the Texas A&M Tennis Center in College Station, Texas. Kansas State advanced to play the Jayhawks after beating No. 11-seed Iowa State Thursday, 4-0.
During the regular season, 53rd-ranked Kansas State lost, 4-3, to the 36th-ranked Jayhawks on April 3 in Manhattan. KU's Aurelie Bejar rallied from a 4-3 second-set deficit and fought off three match points at No. 5 singles to clinch the victory for the Jayhawks.
