Vogel Continues Winning Streak
Sep 22, 2002
Vogel earned first-place trophies in open horsemanship and open reining. Senior teammate Amanda Gigot was close behind, earning second place in both classes. The marks were good enough for them to bring home High-Point Individual and High-Point Reserve awards respectively. This marks the first time either one has earned those honors.
In the team standing, the `Cats took first with 23 points. SMSU was close behind with 17 points.
"I was very pleased with Saturday's performance," said head coach Lindsay Breidenthal. "All of the girls rode very well. Winning our first show is a great way to start the season."
Juniors Beverly Wilson and Erin Rees both brought home first-place honors in intermediate II, while Megan Hemberger grabbed third place. In intermediate I, sophomores Jessica Dubin earned first place and Krystal Briggs rode well enough for third. Freshman Lindsey Hicks, sophomore Kristin Tanney and senior Jill Sump went one, two, three in advanced II. Sophomores Lindsay George earned a second-place trophy in advanced I, while Caitlin Morrison was right behind in third.
K-State did not fare as well Sunday morning in the second show, scoring only three points.
The Western team will next be in action Oct. 5-6 at Iowa State. The English team will get its chance to ride Oct. 25-27 at its first home show at Fox Creek.
