K-State Cross Country Teams to Run at Chile Pepper Invitational

Manhattan, Kan.-The Kansas State University cross country teams have their final preparations before the Big 12 Cross Country Championships this weekend when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to participate in the Chile Pepper Invitational on Saturday, October 18. The Wildcat men will run a 10,000-meter race at 9:30 a.m. while the women will take the course in a 6,000-meter race at 10:30 a.m.
"This has always been a strong competition," head coach Randy Cole said. "The race will be the first 10,000-meter course the men will run on this year; and, along with the 6,000 meter race for the women, will provide the team with strong training for the upcoming conference championships."
Freshman Stefanie Murer and junior Trisha Culbertson will look to lead the Wildcats at the meet. Murer has placed first among Wildcat runners in the last two meets, including a first place finish at the KSU Wildcat Invite, while Culbertson had a strong showing at last year's Chile Pepper Invitational, finishing 11th at the meet.
Junior runner Mathew Chesang will look to lead the Wildcats men's squad for the tenth consecutive meet. Last year the invitational, Chesang finished first among Wildcat competitors while finishing 19th at the invitational.
This will be the last meet for the Wildcats before K-State runs in the Big 12 Cross Country Championships on Friday, October 31, in Austin, Texas.
