Five K-State Runners Earn Cross Country Academic All-Big 12 Honors

Burrell, a senior kinesiology major, and Holston, a senior majoring in biology, both natives of Topeka, Kan., were named to the all-academic team during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Culbertson, who earned her second consecutive honor after an all-academic nod last season, is currently a junior majoring in biological and agricultural engineering.
On the men's side, Trevor Smith, and his brother, Christian, were named to the team for the first time. Trevor Smith is currently a senior majoring in marketing while Christian is a sophomore studying secondary education.
Nominated by each instituion's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the cross country academic all-league squad consisted of 94 combined first-team members with 20 on the second team. First-team members consist of those who maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team are those who have posted 3.00 to 3.19 GPAs.
To qualify, student-athletes must have a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team's scheduled contests. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
The next action for Kansas State will be the Big 12 Cross Country Championships in Austin, Texas, on Friday, October 28, at 9:00 a.m.
Championship results from the Big 12 cross country meet can be accessed via the Big 12 web site at www.big12sports.com or via the Texas web site at www.TexasSports.com. Also, highlights from the championships will be available on Oct. 31 from 3-3:15 p.m. (CST). Highlights will include the women’s and men’s race and interviews with winning coaches and student-athletes.
