Wildcat Pair Hits Provisional Mark in High Jump

AMES, Iowa - Kyle Lancaster and Mike Kizinkewich of Kansas State finished first and second in the men's high jump Saturday in the second day of the Iowa State Classic indoor track and field meet. The pair cleared 7 feet, 1 inch to match the provisional-qualifying mark for the NCAA Indoor Nationals in mid-March.
Joseph Lee won the men's 800 meters in 1:48.51, improving his provisional mark for the NCAAs. Christian Smith and Erik Sproll tied for third in the 800, each running 1:49.08 for their fastest times of the season.
K-State senior Will Rogers won the 600-yard run in a season-best 1:11.00. Joseph Bennett was fourth and Eric Garrett placed 10th for the ?Cats, each hitting a season-best in the 600.
Joe Moore cut 10 seconds off his season-best time in the men's 3,000 meters, while K-State's 4x400 relay team of Pat Agwu, Rogers, Dusty McDonald and Lee ran 3:08.30, improving their provisional-qualifying mark.
On the women's side, Amy Mortimer missed a NCAA automatic-qualifying mark by less than a second with her second-place finish in the 3,000-meter run. Mortimer ran 9:20.65, just missing the automatic standard of 9:20.00. She finished behind only Amanda Bales of Missouri, who ran 9:17.62.
Krista Harmon was seventh in the 600-yard run in a season-best 1:24.64, while Ashley Stevens (55.36), Shunte Thomas (55.49) and Nicole Grose (56.55) each hit season-bests in the 400 meters.
Lysaira Roman-Del Valle was fourth at 800 meters for the Wildcats, who return home next Saturday for the KSU Open in the final tuneup before the Big 12 Conference Championships on Feb. 28 and March 1 at Nebraska.
