
Sixteen Wildcats Qualify for NCAA Indoor Championship

The Indoor Championship starts March 13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State track and field teams will be represented by 16 field athletes at the NCAA Indoor Championship set for March 13-14 in Fayetteville, Ark., at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Tickets can be purchased starting at $22 for single day while two-day tickets start at $40. Both days of events will be streamed on ESPN+.
Nine men and seven women will compete one last time this indoor season for the Wildcats in fields of 16 competitors in their respective events. The Wildcats that qualified include Aaron Antoine (triple jump), Tah Chikomba (long jump), Sharie Enoe (high jump), Trevon Hamer (triple jump), Alan Hanna (high jump), Monique Hardy (weight throw), Devin Loudermilk (high jump), Kade McCall (weight throw), Vanessa Mercera (pentathlon), Gary Moore Jr. (weight throw), Chisom Nwafor (long jump), Selva Prabhu (triple jump), Uroy Ryan (long jump), Destini Smith (triple jump), Daniela Wamokpego (triple jump) and Maud Zeffou-Poaty (long jump).
The nine men set to compete are tied for the fifth most by teams, Arkansas leads with 17 qualifiers, but the most by a Big 12 program. In the last 20 years the most K-State men to compete at the Indoor Championship was five in 2011 when they totaled 12 points tied for 18th place. In program history the most points scored were 17 in 2006 in 11th place while the highest team finish was a tie for 5th in 1966 with 9.5 points.
The seven women are the most to compete in the indoor championship since 2015 when eight Cats earned a total of 12 points in 18th place. The women's highest team finish was 5th place in 1984 with 14 points while the most points scored was 26 in 2016 with an 8th place finish.
In the week six USTFCCCA rankings released on Tuesday (March 3) the men check in at #5 with 110.00 points, the women still at #10 with 75.22 points. The men are leading the Big 12 Conference in the national rankings, ahead of Texas Tech at #9 with 89.11 points.
The Cats started the post season with the Big 12 Championship, the men's team named runners-up with 124 points while the women finished 4th with 78.5. The men's 60-meter hurdles final was scored incorrectly with the seventh-place finisher from Tech, but the team standings will not be changed according to the conference.
The six total K-State champions are the most since 2016 when three men and four women were crowned. The four men's champions are tied for the most since 1993 in the Big 8 Conference.
Hardy, a senior, won her second weight throw title in three seasons with a throw of 21.89m (71' 10") while McCall, a fifth-year senior, won his first indoor title in the weight throw tying his personal best at 22.63m (74' 3").
Three Cats were crowned champions in the jumps as K-State swept the men's and women's long jump events, the first time a Wildcat won both events since 2016. Zeffou-Poaty, a junior, jumped a personal best at 6.62m (21' 8.75"), while Ryan, a sophomore, leaped to a personal best of his own at 7.90m (25' 11").
Loudermilk, a senior, won the high jump with his season's best clearance at 2.25m (7' 4.5") for his second title in three seasons, previously winning at Kansas. The final event winner came from the men's 4x400 relay team with a time of 3:05.59 from junior Nen Matlock, freshman Heath Grant, senior Bongumusa Nkosi and junior Tavon Underwood.
