
Chikomba Breaks Long Jump School Record During Oregon Team Invite

He surpasses the previous record by over an inch, a personal best by three inches
EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Tah Chikomba's second jump of the outdoor season broke the men's long jump school record on Friday (April 17) during day one of the Oregon Team Invitational at Hayward Field.
Chikomba was victorious in the invite event with a leap of 8.25m (27' 0.75"), facing a headwind of 2.2, for a personal best over three inches. He surpasses the previous school record from Kenny Harrison at 8.21m (26' 11.5") in 1988. Chikomba is currently no. 1 in the NCAA and no. 9 in the world according to World Athletics.
"I'm extremely proud of Tah and the way he executed his plan tonight," head coach Travis Geopfert said. "It's so fun to watch the work he's putting in and growth he's having as an athlete. He's a special talent that is very coachable. Extremely proud of this young man!"
In the men's event two more Wildcats rounded out the top-3, sophomore Uroy Ryan as runner-up at 7.84m (25' 8.75") and freshman Croix DaCunha in 3rd place at 7.62m (25' 0").
The K-State women also claimed the first three spots in their long jump event with freshman Chisom Nwafor claiming the win at 6.28m (20' 7.25"). Just half an inch short of each other, junior Maud Zeffou-Poaty was runner-up at 6.27m (20' 7") while senior Aaliyah Lindsay took 3rd place at 6.26m (20' 6.5").
In the men's discus throw, junior Ricardo Hayles, claimed 3rd place with a throw of 55.17m (181'0"). Fellow thrower, sophomore Lindsey Cure, finished 4th in the women's javelin throw at 45.70m (149' 11").
In the last event of the night sophomore Jackson Esquibel finished the 5,000 meters in 4th place with a time of 14:15.13, six seconds shy of his fastest time.
In the team scores after five events, the men are sitting in 2nd place with 49 points while the women are 4th with 68 points.
The Oregon Team Invitational wraps up on Saturday (April 18) starting with the men's hammer throw invite at 5:45 p.m., CT, the women's 4x100 relay beginning at 7:32 p.m., CT. Field events throughout the day can be streamed on B1G+.
