MANHATTAN, Kan.- Kansas State kicks off its spring rowing season in Austin, Texas, this weekend at the Longhorn Invitational on Town Lake. The Wildcats square off against Texas, Southern Methodist, Tulsa and Duke over the course of the three-day regatta.
The weekend of racing begins Friday afternoon with the Wildcats competing against Texas in four races starting at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday morning, K-State starts with a varsity four race against Iowa at 9:40 a.m., before matching up with SMU for three eights races beginning at 9:50 a.m.
In the afternoon session, the ?Cats take on Tulsa in a three-race dual at 5:40 p.m. K-State will wrap up the weekend on Sunday morning with four races against Duke.

Spring Break with a Twist
The Wildcats spent their spring break training in Austin, Texas, to get ready for the season. This year marks the team's seveth consecutive trip to Texas to take advantage of the warmer weather and team training time.
One Year Ago
In the 2002 Longhorn Invitational, the Wildcats faced three of the same four opponents they will see this year. Kansas State took three of four races from SMU while sweeping two races from Tulsa. K-State was swept by Texas.
Clemson, which will visit Manhattan on March 29th for a double dual with Iowa, was the fourth team the Wildcats faced last year in Austin. Of four races, the Wildcats won the varsity eight matchup with the Tigers.
Last Time Out
Amidst a light sprinkle and cool temperatures on Nov. 2, 2002, the Kansas State women's rowing team showed no mercy in winning five of five 2,000-meter races against intra-state rival Kansas. The 24-0 victory in the sixth annual Sunflower Showdown at Burcham Park in Lawrence, Kan., was the first shutout in the history of the series.
Sprinting to the Finish
The dual events this weekend are 2,000-meter head-to-head races, unlike the ?head? races K-State competed in during most of the fall. The format is the same one used in K-State's final event of the fall, the Sunflower Showdown.
