Vogel Leads Equestrian Teams At Varsity

Kansas State Western rider, Brandi Vogel, was the lonefirst-place individual finisher for the Wildcats atthe Varsity Championships Friday, hosted by Texas A&M.This show is the preliminary vision for the an NCAAChampionship in equestrian as created by the nation'svarsity coaches. Both the English and Western teamscompeted in College Station, Texas.
This was Vogel's sixth first-place ribbon of theseason in reining. Vogel and teammate Erin Peeryplaced second in horsemanship, while Peery also placedthird in reining.
"Brandi and Erin both rode well today," head coachLindsay Breidenthal said. "Both teams struggled a bittoday. The competition was intense and we were able tosee some very good riders before going to nationals."
Also competing for the Western team was Kristin Tanneyand Amanda Gigot. Tanney placed sixth in horsemanshipand Gigot did not place in the reining.
On the English side, there were two events: equitationover fences and equitation on the flat. Those twocategories were broken down into three sections each,with one rider form each school participating in eachsection. The lowest score in both English and Westernwere dropped.
Dehlia Burdan, Maureen Reynolds and Allison Woodworthrepresented K-State on the English side. Burdan wasthe highest K-State finisher on flat and on the fenceswith third and fifth places respectively. Reynolds andWoodworth placed sixth and eighth on the flatrespectively.
The 'Cats are next in action at the IntercollegiateHorse Show Association National Competition on May 1-5in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
