K-State's Peery Helped Western Team to Fifth-Place Finish at Nationals

Junior Erin Peery helped the Kansas State Western team to a fifth-place finish Sunday at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Competition. West Texas A&M and Texas A&M tied for the Western team title, while Stonehill College won the English team title. K-State finished in a tie for 15th in the English standings.
Senior Amanda Gigot finished in fifth in the American Quarter Horse Association High-Point rider competition. Sophomore Allison Woodworth competed for the USAE/Cacchoine Cup, but did not qualify for the final round. Both of the women are the first Wildcat riders to compete for the honors.
Julie Hufft (English individual; walk/trot/canter) and Woodworth (English team; open fences) competed Sunday, but did not place.
In Saturday's competition completed after the time of release, Brandi Vogel (Western individual) placed 10th in open reining and Woodworth (English team) did not place in open flat.
During Friday's competition, sophomore Elaine Cobb became K-State's second individual IHSA National Champion with her win in intermediate horsemanship. Vogel was K-State's first national champion in 2002 with a win in advanced horsemanship.
This completes the K-State equestrian team's season.
