The regatta marks the first event for Sweeney as the Wildcats new head coach as he begins a new era after replacing Jenny Hale, who served as K-State's head coach the previous seven seasons.
The Wildcats will compete in three races during the regatta, the women's open 8+ at 12:15 p.m., the women's open 2- at 2:15 p.m. and the women's open 4+ race at 4:15 p.m.
Last season, the Wildcats had a strong showing at the Head of the Des Moines, placing third, fifth and 12th in the open 8+ race, while finishing 16th and 20th in the open 4+ race.
In the open pairs race, K-State placed five of eight boats in the top ten, including the duo of Lara Schrock and Lori Holcomb who finished second. Schrock and Holcomb both return to the Wildcats this season and will look to improve on last year's finish.
Following the regatta, the Wildcats will return to action on Friday, Oct. 18, at the Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass.
