LOS ANGELES - Kansas State women’s tennis player Maria Rosenberg fell to Zsuzana Fodor of Mississippi State, 6-2, 6-1, in the final pre-qualifying round of the Riviera/All-American. Rosenberg completed the pre-qualifier with a 3-1 record and improved her fall mark to 4-3.
The Manhattan, Kan., native and number seven seed in the tournament defeated Chelsey Thompson of Cal Poly, Nika Koukhartchouk of Ole Miss and Lauren Archer of Duke to reach the final round of the pre-qualifier. Rosenberg played five matches in four days, but said that fatigue was not a factor.
“I was a little sore, but it had no more affect on me than usual. She [Fodor] was a quality opponent. I am happy with the way I played over the course of the weekend and it was better than I played at Mississippi. Right now my hard work is paying off.”
Head coach Steve Bietau echoed his top player’s sentiments. “In a great tournament like this you will play someone like Maria did today. Despite the loss, I am happy with the way Maria played this weekend.”
Rosenberg and the rest of the Wildcats tennis team will travel to Bloomington, Indiana for the Hoosier Classic on October 8-10.
