Wildcats To Duel Hawkeyes In Iowa City

OFF TO A GOOD START
The No. 41-ranked Kansas State women’s tennis team (2-1) travels to Iowa City to duel No. 68 Iowa on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. The Wildcats carry a two-game win streak into Sunday’s match vs. the Hawkeyes.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Iowa opened its spring season on Jan. 23 and are an undefeated 5-0 in dual match play thus far. The Hawkeyes recently beat regional rivals Drake, 7-0, and Marquette, 6-1, at home. Both schools last met in February of 1989, when the Wildcats defeated Iowa, 6-3. The all-time series is tied at 1-1. Iowa’s Megan Racette is currently ranked 21st in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Region singles rankings.
WILDCAT UPDATE
Junior Maria Rosenberg, ranked as the 12th best singles player in the Central Region by the ITA, was recently named Co-Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Feb. 10. She is currently 3-0 at No. 1 singles for K-State. The Wildcats host SMS next week, before heading into Big 12 Conference play against Colorado on Feb. 29 in Boulder, Colo.
TOUGH SCHEDULE AHEAD
As of the recent ITA rankings released on Feb. 10, thirteen of K-State’s 2003-04 opponents are ranked among the nation’s top 75 teams. K-State is 0-1 against ranked opponents this season, having lost to Ole Miss (3-4) on Jan. 30. Ten of the member schools from the Big 12 are among the top 75 field.
