Feb 21, 2004 | Track & Field
MANHATTAN, Kan. - Rebekah Green posted the fifth-best throw in the nation this year in the women’s shot put and Coby Cost led a sweep of the top four spots in the men’s weight throw as the Kansas State Track and field team closed out its home indoor season with a dominating 10-win performance at the KSU Open Saturday at Ahearn Field House.
Green’s NCAA Indoor Championship automatic qualifying mark of 56-04.50 in the shot put was a season best and for the senior and just four inches shy of her K-State school record of 56-8.50 set at last year’s Wildcat Invitational.
Cost's heave of 65-08.75 powered K-State run of the top four spots in the weight throw as Ryan Creadic, Tarl Vetter and Adam Walker finished second, third and fourth, respectively.
The K-State men also recorded a sweep in the high jump, with Kyle Lancaster once again leading the way. He hit yet another provisional mark for the NCAA Indoor Championships with a clearance of 7-01.75. Mike Kizinkewich and Wojciech Borysiewicz finished second and third, respectively.
Avantae Arrington just missed putting up a provisional qualifying time in his first effort of the season at 200 meters, winning the event with a time of 22.11 to sew up the men's third top placing of the event.
Not to be outdone, the
Monique Coleman also had a solid afternoon, winning the 200 meters with a time of 25.58, for a season best and finished second in the 400 meters and first among collegiate athletes with a time of 59.21.
JaNelle Wright crushed her season best in the high jump. Her first-place mark of 5-09.25 beat out her height at the Sevigne Husker Invitational by exactly 5 inches. Her previous best was a mark of 5-04.25.
In the long jump, the Cats again had the top mark as Chaytan Hill won the event with a leap of 19-04.75
