Baseball sweeps DH to run winning streak to 10 games

GAME ONE: Kansas State 11, Buffalo 8
Kansas State jumped out to a 10-2 lead after five innings, but had to hold off a stiff Buffalo rally in the latter innings to post its ninth consecutive win in an 11-8 victory in game one of a doubleheader on Friday at Tointon Family Stadium.
Sophomore outfielder Steve Murphy led four Wildcats with multiple-hit games, as he went 3-for-5, including a towering grand slam over the scoreboard, with a team-best four RBIs and three runs scored. Sophomore first baseman Chris Carlson posted three hits and three RBIs, while freshman third baseman Eli Rumler added a 3-for-4 afternoon with two runs scored and a RBI.
Senior left-handed pitcher Brett Bagley (3-2) picked up his third win of the season, as he allowed six runs (all earned) on seven hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts and three walks. Junior right-handed pitcher Matt Petersen collected his team-leading third save, as he got the final two outs in the ninth.
Freshman right-handed pitcher Mark Tourangeau took the loss for Buffalo, as he allowed eight runs (all earned) on 10 hits in four innings with three strikeouts and two walks.
GAME TWO: Kansas State 10, Buffalo 6
After Buffalo jumped out to leads of 3-0 and 6-3, Kansas State scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take its first lead of the game at 8-6 and held on the for the win. In the sixth, Chris Carlson and Josh Heinrich each had run-scoring singles as K-State plated four runs on three hits in the inning and made a winner out of starter Carlos Torres, who improved to 4-0 on the season.
Torres threw 8.0 innings and gave up four earned runs on nine hits while striking out a season-high nine Bulls. Matt Petersen came in and pitched a scoreless ninth to seal the win.
Terry Blunt, who doubled in a run in the eighth to extend the Wildcat lead to 10-6, finished the night 3-for4 with two runs and an RBI. Josh Dent, Steve Murphy, Brian Patty, Josh Heinrich and Eli Rumler each had two hits in the nightcap as the Wildcats pounded out 14 hits in the second game.
Buffalo’s Chris McGraw suffered the loss and fell to 0-3 on the season.
