MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State track and field team competes in two different events this weekend. On Friday, April 2, 10 team members will compete in the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Tex., which will continue on Saturday, April 3. The rest of the squad will participate in the Euler State Farm/ESU Relays held on Saturday, April 3, in Emporia, Kan.
Headlining the Wildcats in Austin this weekend is Kyle Lancaster in the men’s high jump. Coming off a third-place finish in the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships last month, Lancaster has already starting off the outdoor season with a bang, recording a pair of first-place finishes, and two NCAA Regional qualifying marks in the first two meets. His best jump this outdoor season came at the Baldy Castillo Invite on March 21. He leaped to a height of 7-02.50.
Also competing in the high jump, but on the women’s side, is Morgan High. After finishing 13th in the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships, High has kicked it back into gear for the outdoor season. She, too, has finished first in both meets competed in this year, registering one NCAA Regional qualifying mark at the Baldy Castillo Invite, where she cleared 6-01.50.
Other competitors at the Texas Relays will be Chaytan Hill in the women’s triple jump, and Queeneth Evurunobi in the women’s long jump. A combination of Pat Agwu, Will Jones, Joseph Bennett, Avantae Arrington, and Tal Mor will compete in the men’s 4x100 meter relay, 1,600 meter relay, and the 4x200 meter relay.
TJ Staab travels to Emporia State after punching his ticket for the NCAA Regional Meet at Arizona last year. On March 27th at the Jim Click Shootout, Staab placed first in the men’s shot put with a heave of 57-01.00. This was more than a two and a half foot improvement from his throw at the Baldy Castillo Invite, where he finished second at 54-06.00.
Joining Staab in Emporia is Breanna Eveland. She has recorded two NCAA Regional qualifying marks in the women’s pole vault, finishing first and second in the first two meets this season. At the Jim Click Shootout, Eveland produced her best vault of both the indoor and outdoor season, clearing a career best 13-01.75. The mark was good enough to finish second.
Results for the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays are expected to be available on the University of Texas athletics website at www.texassports.com. Results for both meets will be posted on www.kstatesports.com as soon as available.
