Two Wildcats hit provisonal marks at ISU Last Chance Meet

Riffel registered her thrid provisonal mark and her best throw of the season as she ran away with a
victory in the weight throw. Her heave of 62-04.25 blew away the competition, with Tia DeSoto of Nebraska claiming a distant second with a mark of 60-10.50.
Roman-Del Valle came away with a third-place finish in the women’s 800 meter run, clocking in at 2:07.28. The time was good enough to collect her third provisional time of the season. She came close to an NCAA automatic brith, missing the qualifying time by less than two seconds. Her run at the ISU Last Chance was a close second to her best mark of the season set during the preliminaries at the Big 12 Indoor Championships.
Another victory for the Cats was recorded by Coby Cost in the men’s weight throw. Although he didn’t recieve a qualifying mark, Cost crushed his competition with a throw of 63-04.25. Indiana State’s Jason Carruthers finished in second, more than a foot behind Cost.
Mike Kizinkewich leaped 6-10.25 in the men’s high jump, tying him for fourth. He came up just short of first-place finisher Shaun Kologinczak, who cleared 7-02.25.
In the men’s 400 meter dash, Will Jones barely missed a NCAA provisonal mark, clocking a time of 47.63 and placing ninth. His time was less than a second short of the provisional mark. Finishing right after Jones, in 10th place, was Pat Agwu with a time of 47.70. Joseph Bennett clocked in at 48.23 to finish 12th.
The 2004 NCAA National Indoor Championships will be held March 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
