Apr 10, 2004 | Rowing
LAWRENCE, Kan. Despite its sixth-straight loss to cross-state rival Kansas for the annual Kansas Cup, the Kansas State rowing team captured a novice eight victory in the three-team regatta held Saturday afternoon on the Kansas River.
The Second Novice Eight boat led by coxswain Julie Tharp and crewed by Heather Martin, Stacey Waldman, Rachel Freeman, Amy Wagner, Jennifer Reischman, Kelli Eidson, Erin Bodlak and Shelby Latimer, defeated the Jayhawks by 8.9 seconds with a winning time of 6:50.00 for first-place honors.
In the First and Second Varsity Eight races, K-State placed second (6:21.30) and third (6:34.30) respectively. KU and Cincinnati each won two races, which eventually gave the Jayhawks enough points for their 18-1 victory over the Wildcats.
K-State returns to competition next week at the upcoming Southern IRA’s on Saturday, April 17, in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
